A woman's decomposed body was found in bushes near Kanpur district hospital on Saturday, police said. It is suspected that the woman was raped as she had no clothes on her lower body. Her face also appeared disfigured, possibly due to an acid attack.

The woman's body was dumped only a few metres away from the chief medical officer's (CMO) office.

Dr Sudesh Gupta, the chief of Kashi Ram Hospital, said the body was found dumped in the bushes behind the hospital in the morning. He added he didn't discover the body when he visited the area the previous day, suggesting that the crime occurred overnight.

Meanwhile, a police official, Lakhan Singh Yadav, said the body appeared to be several days old and was badly decomposed due to the heat.

The body has been sent for forensic examination and post-mortem and the identity of the woman is yet to be established, he said.
