Fans of
Netflix
's Regency-era drama "Bridgerton" are eagerly awaiting news about Season 4, especially after the romantic resolution of Colin Bridgerton and
Penelope Featherington
's story in Season 3. Here's everything we know so far about the upcoming season, including potential lead characters,
cast
details, and release timelines.
"Bridgerton" was renewed for both Season 3 and Season 4 back in April 2021, just a few months after the premiere of its first season.
Netflix made the announcement, much to the delight of fans, stating that the series would continue to explore the lives and romances of the Bridgerton siblings.
As per the adaptation of
Julia Quinn's book series
, each season of "Bridgerton" focuses on one of the eight Bridgerton siblings: Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, and Hyacinth. So far, Anthony, Colin, Daphne, and Francesca have had their stories told. This leaves the remaining four siblings, with Gregory and Hyacinth likely too young to be the central characters just yet. Therefore, Season 4 will probably focus on either Benedict or Eloise.
While Netflix has not officially confirmed the cast for Season 4, it is expected that Luke Thompson (Benedict) and Claudia Jessie (Eloise) will continue to play significant roles. Showrunner Jess Brownell revealed that the next season will begin filming in the fall. This aligns with the production schedules of previous seasons, which typically take about eight months of filming, followed by extensive editing and dubbing processes.
"Bridgerton" has had varied release dates: Season 1 premiered in December 2020, while Season 2 followed in March 2022. Season 3 took longer, releasing in two parts in May and June 2024. Given the production timeline, Brownell indicated that fans might need to wait up to two years for Season 4. The lengthy production process includes filming, editing, and dubbing into multiple languages, which collectively contribute to the delay.
Brownell hinted that Season 4 might have a different visual and thematic feel compared to the pastel and spring-like tones of the previous seasons. This change could bring a fresh perspective to the show's familiar setting, aligning with the evolving narratives of the Bridgerton siblings.
