After India shared the honours with hosts

South Africa

in the T20I series,

KL Rahul

will step into the role of captaincy and lead the visitors in the three-match

ODI series

beginning in

Johannesburg

on Sunday.
India tied the T20I series 1-1 after winning the decider. The first game in Durban was washed out, while the Proteas won the second.

Suryakumar Yadav, who scored a century in India's win to level the T20I series, led the side in the shortest format in the absence of injured Hardik Pandya.

It will now be Rahul's turn to lead in the 50-over format, followed by Rohit Sharma in the two-Test series.

"We are looking forward to this," said ODI captain Rahul in a video posted by BCCI on 'X'. "It's a great challenge coming to South Africa and playing against South Africa in their home conditions."
The video shows the footage of team's training session ahead of the series opener at the New Wanderers Stadium.
"A lot of new faces, so obviously they will be motivated and would want to get their opportunies and perform well for their team and their country," Rahul could be heard saying in the video.

"The guys that are here in the squad are all very deserving of their call-up to the national team. They have all performed really well. I trust each of them, and the selectors have shown faith and given them this opportunity, so we trust all of them to do the job, compete really hard and win the series," said Rahul.
