Princely Umanmielen has the confidence of a king.
On Friday night, the Carolina Panthers selected the University of Mississippi edge rusher with the 77th overall pick of the 2025 NFL draft.
When taking that long-awaited call from general manager Dan Morgan, owner David Tepper and head coach Dave Canales, Umanmielen didn't hesitate to give them a warning about some future plans . . .

— Carolina Panthers (@Panthers) April 26, 2025Umanmielen exhibited a similar belief in himself when talking to reporters shortly after his selection.
"I think I'm a really powerful guy, and people kinda don't really acknowledge that," he replied when asked about an overlooked strength of his. "When I was in college, I was really, like, spoiled . . . I don't know if I'd say 'spoiled,' maybe I'm just that good to the point where I didn't have to use power against offensive tackles.
"I was winning with my moves, so there's no reason to convert to power. But there was times I go power and it shows up on film a lot. I squat 700 pounds, so I know I have a lot of power."
That power helped Umanmielen rack up 10.5 sacks this past season for the Rebels. And if he's as good of a soothsayer as he is a pass rusher, then that power will also help him rack up some racks in a few years' time.
