John Abraham
has faced a string of underwhelming recent releases like Satyameva Jayate 2, Attack, Ek Villain Returns, and Mumbai Saga. His only success has been
Pathaan
alongside Shah Rukh Khan. Unfortunately, his latest film,
Vedaa
, co-starring
Sharvari
, has also struggled since its second day.
The film released on August 15, to cash in on the long 5 day-weekend, clashing with
Shraddha Kapoor
’s
Stree 2
and
Akshay
’s Khel Khel Mein, but was able to earn only Rs 17.6 crore.
At one point during the advance booking, Vedaa was second in the race with Stree 2 leading and
Khel Khel Mein
in the third spot. But post release Stree 2 zoomed ahead to become the 9th biggest hit of Hindi Cinema and Khel Khel Mein earned just a little over Rs 21 crore.
On its second Friday, this John Abraham and Sharvari starrer was able to earn only Rs 30 lakh, which was a 50 percent drop from its Thursday collection. But Saturday came with much respite as its collection jumped by near 100 percent, to collect Rs 60 lakh. Thus taking the overall collection of Vedaa to Rs 18.50 crore, reports Sacnilk. Vedaa has beaten the lifetime collection of John’s films like Satyameva Jayate 2 (Rs 14.16 crore), Attack- Part 1 (Rs 16 crore) and Mumbai Saga (Rs 16.5 crore). It would be interesting to see if Vedaa can cross the collection of Ek Villain Returns which had minted Rs 43.21 crore.
John Abraham's next film is Tehran, where he stars alongside Manushi Chhillar. He is also expected to join Housefull 5, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, co-starring Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh,
Fardeen Khan
, and Boman Irani. Meanwhile, Sharvari, the lead in Vedaa, is currently filming Alpha with Alia Bhatt. Hrithik Roshan is set to make a cameo in the movie which extended YRF’s Spy Universe.
