Varanasi Municipal Corporation cracks down on waste collection failures and seizes government land

VARANASI: The

Varanasi Municipal Corporation

issued a warning of payment deduction to the company responsible for

door-to-door garbage collection

due to poor performance.
Due to repeated failures to improve and continued non-compliance despite several warnings, the municipal commissioner expressed strong dissatisfaction and issued a warning for a deduction of approximately Rs 5 crore from the company's payment.
The Municipal Commissioner Akshat Verma issued the warning to Varanasi Waste Solution, the company selected for door-to-door garbage collection by the Varanasi Municipal Corporation, due to their failure to meet standards. Verma said that the

Varanasi Waste Solution

is responsible for the daily collection and segregation of waste from households in Varanasi and collecting user charges from property owners.
Over the past year, the company did not achieve 100% collection of user charges, leading to multiple warnings in the past.

Meanwhile, under its campaign of identifying govt land in newly expanded areas, the Varanasi Municipal Corporation took significant action on Saturday by marking and taking possession of a total of 32 bighas of govt land in various parts of the city.
As part of this campaign, 16 bighas of land in the Lalpur Mirapur Basahi area were marked and seized by installing pillars.
Additionally, 13 bighas of govt land in Danialpur were also marked and seized with pillars. Subsequently, 3 bighas of land in Bhikaripur were taken over. In total, 32 bighas of land were marked and seized today.
So far, the ongoing campaign by the municipal corporation resulted in the seizure of 135 bighas of land.
