NEW DELHI: In a thrilling Olympic Games warm-up match held in London on Saturday, South Sudan's basketball team nearly pulled off a shocking upset against the star-studded United States squad.
Despite leading by 14 points at the half, the South Sudanese team ultimately fell short, losing 101-100.
LeBron James
proved to be the savior for the US team, scoring 23 points, including the crucial basket with a mere 20 seconds remaining on the clock.
Anthony Davis
also made a significant contribution, recording 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
South Sudan, currently ranked 33rd in the world, showcased their talent with Marial Shayok leading the way, scoring an impressive 25 points. Carlik Jones also had a standout performance, registering a triple-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists.
The two teams are set to face each other again during the pool stages of the Paris Olympics, which commence on Friday.
