KALABURAGI: A meeting of
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh
(
RSS
) at
Karnataka Central University
, near Kalaburagi, on July 18, has triggered a
controversy
.
The meeting was held at the university guest house between 4 pm and 7 pm on July 18, and attended by around 100 students and faculty members. It aimed to plan the celebration of RSS' 100th anniversary this year.
Following the incident,
Priyank Kharge
, a minister from Karnataka, strongly criticized the university's management.
Posting a video of the event on X, Kharge wrote, "The Central University of Karnataka was established by Sri Mallikarjun Kharge to meet the educational aspirations of students in the Kalyana Karnataka region. However, instead of providing quality education, the CUK has turned into an RSS Shakha. There is a strong need to stem this. Over the past decade, the infiltration of pracharaks into government institutions has been extensive, leading to a complete deterioration and rot in the system."
Vice-chancellor Battu Satyanarayana justified his decision to allow the meeting by stating that RSS is not a banned outfit and argyed that the university cannot allow some groups to hold events while denying others.
All India Students' Federation (
AISF
) staged a
protest
terming it an effort to saffronise the academic space. It has also demanded action against Satyanarayana.
