Road rage ends in murder of youth in Bengaluru

According to police, the car-borne miscreants chased a bike ridden by the deceased following a minor accident. The deceased has been identified as

Mahesh

, 21, a resident of Nanjappa Circle in Vidyaranyapura.

He was a delivery boy by profession. The

have detained two

accused persons

identified as Aravind, a private bank employee, and his friend Channakeshav, and have subjected them to interrogation.
Based on the preliminary

investigation

, the police said that the incident happened between 7.30 pm and 8 pm when Mahesh, along with his friends Balaji and Likith, were riding on a bike near GKVK. They were going to have tea and hang around for some time in the area.

Bike ridden by the deceased

Meanwhile, a car bearing registration number KA 02 MU 4824, riding in the same direction, was honking at the bike asking for the way to pass. Mahesh reportedly didn’t make way for the car. Subsequently, the car hit the bike from behind. As it was a minor accident, there was no major damage to both vehicles.

In a fit of rage, Mahesh started riding the bike faster in a bid to escape. Arvind, who was driving the car, chased the bike for almost a kilometre. Balaji and Likith sensed the danger and they jumped or fell from the bike in the curve when Mahesh slowed down. Aravind continued to chase the bike and hit the rear of the bike. Mahesh was tossed in the air and hit an electric pole and a compound wall of a building. As Mahesh was not wearing a helmet, he sustained severe head injuries and died at the spot. Balaji and Likith have sustained minor injuries.

police, along with the scene of crime officers (SOCO) team, visited the spot and collected evidence. Both the car and bike have been seized. A case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, section 103 (murder) has been registered and further investigation is in progress. Aravind and his friend Channakeshav claimed that they were out to buy milk.
