NEW DELHI: The admission process for nursery, kindergarten, and class 1 in around 1,741
private schools in Delhi
for the 2025-26 academic year started on Thursday, according to officials.
The Delhi government's Department of Education (DoE) issued a circular on November 12, stating that the last date to submit registration forms is December 20. The first list of accepted applicants will be released on January 17, 2025.
On Wednesday, schools announced their admission criteria. Many schools mentioned factors like neighborhood, distance from the school, and proximity as key criteria. Other factors included whether the child is a girl, a single girl child, has siblings at the same school, or if the parents are single.
Some schools also considered specific groups, such as Sikh and Christian minorities, economically disadvantaged families, and parents with physical disabilities.
Private schools are required to reserve 25% of their seats for students from economically weaker sections (EWS), disadvantaged groups (DG), and children with disabilities. Separate lists for these categories will be published, as per the circular.
The DoE also set the age requirements for admission. By March 31, 2025, children must be at least three years old for nursery, four years old for kindergarten, and five years old for class 1. The maximum age limits are under four, five, and six years for nursery, kindergarten, and class 1, respectively.
Lastly, the circular mentioned that parents can contact school heads for any admission-related queries from January 18 to January 27, 2025.
