KOLHAPUR: Three people, including a couple, died after the car in which they were travelling fell from the Ankali bridge connecting

Kolhapur

and Sangli districts early on Thursday morning.
The three other passengers are critically injured and have been admitted to a hospital in Sangli city.
According to Sangli City Police, Prasad Bhalchandra Khedekar, aged 40, was travelling from Kolhapur to his home in Sangli city after attending a wedding ceremony with his wife Prerna, their five-year-old son Samarjit, his sister Sakshi Santosh Narvekar, aged 42, and his niece Vaishnavi Santosh Narvekar, aged 23, along with her brother Varad Santosh Narvekar, aged 21.

"The accident happened around 1.30 am. The injured have been admitted for treatment. We are finding the exact cause of the accident, but it is certain that they fell from the bridge into the banks of the

Krishna river

by breaking the railing of the bridge," said Sanjay More, Police Inspector of

According to the relatives, the deceased have been identified as Prasad Bhalchandra Khedekar, Prerna Prasad Khedekar, and Vaishnavi Santosh Narvekar. Prasad was driving the car and might have lost control due to sleep deprivation.
One of the relatives mentioned that the family was busy with the function for the last few days, and Prasad was continuously travelling.
