Netflix will stop supporting older-generation Samsung, Sony, and Apple TV devices next month, rendering the Netflix app unusable on these devices for watching TV shows and movies.
Netflix
has announced that it will stop supporting some older-generation Apple TV devices starting next month. After the
support
is removed from these devices, the Netflix app will no longer work on them. This means users will be unable to watch TV shows and movies on the platform.
What’s the solution
Well, the solution is pretty simple – get a new TV – and that’s something not everyone will be willing to do, especially when everything else is working fine on the TV.
Other solutions are simple and pretty functional too.
There are two ways you can watch Netflix on your old TV. Using HDMI cable and adding a streaming device.
Here’s how both methods work.
Using HDMI cable
You can get an HDMI cable and then plug it into your laptop, run Netflix on the web and then continue watching. Now, this method works as expected, but has a lot of complicated setup and also compromises the core features of the TV like access to other apps, ease of control and more.
Using Streaming devices like Chromecast with Google TV and FireTV Stick
This method is both affordable and practical. These streaming devices are basically an OS running on hardware and offer a complete smart TV experience with app support, access to necessary services and more. You can get a Fire TV Stick for as low as Rs 2500 and connect it to the TV’s HDMI port and continue watching Netflix.
While the first method is a little complicated to use and not very practical in the long run, it is inexpensive and all you need is a HDMI cable. However, the 2nd method works without any major compromise. But these devices come at an added cost, still, it will be a lot cheaper compared to buying a new TV.
