, on Saturday announced that an extension centre of National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) will soon open in

Pilibhit

A technical committee of the ministry headed by working director of NIELIT, SK Dhurandhar, reviewed the status of centre’s viability on Tuesday and filed its report, Prasada said.

Following this, a detailed project report on the extension centre was filed to the ministry envisaging a total outlay of Rs 14.8 crore. “NIELIT is an autonomous scientific institution of MeitY which operates 52 main and extension centres across the country. In UP, NIELIT has its main campus in Gorakhpur and an extension centre in the state capital. The Pilibhit’s extension centre will be UP’s third centre which will help students build careers in information technology and artificial intelligence,” Prasada said.
For setting up the centre, state govt offered 14 rooms with a carpet area of 7,000 sq.ft. at Drummond Govt Inter College at Pilibhit. The centre will impart courses in Internet of Things, blockchain technology, artificial intelligence, cyber security, cloud computing, etc. These programmes were recognised by the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship, he added.

He said that students hailing from SC/ST and OBC communities would get 100% exemption from fees while arrangements for facilitating students of economically weaker sections of general category, were being made through Corporate Social Responsibility.
Additional director of NIELIT, Ghanshyam Shivhari, told TOI the course on computer concepts would be two months long for which admissions would be accepted online every month while the ‘O’ level course would be for a year. The duration would be six months for those who have completed their graduation.
