Man sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment

NASHIK: The

court

of district and sessions judge B V Wagh sentenced

Tousif Ahmed Buranuddin Shaikh

, a 26-year-old helper in a revenue office, to two years of

rigorous imprisonment

(RI) and fined him Rs 2,000 in connection to a case of the

Prevention of Corruption Act

.
In June last year, Shaikh had demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a person to help him with certain documentations at the Upnagar revenue office.

The complainant then approached the Anti Corruption Bureau (

ACB

) Nashik and filed a complaint regarding the

bribery

demand.
The ACB sleuths had thus set a trap and arrested Shaikh while he was accepting the bribe of Rs 20,000. The Upnagar police registered an FIR for offences punishable under relevant sections of the "Prevention of Corruption Act 1988."
After hearing the case, the court of district and sessions judge B V Wagh found the accused guilty of the offence and

sentenced

him to two years of RI along with a fine of Rs 2,000.
