Lakshadweep's Administrator, Praful Patel, on Monday said the Union Territory is being discussed not just in India, but all over the world after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit there.

Patel also announced that several initiatives are underway in Lakshadweep to promote tourism, including the construction of additional accommodation and the development of a large airport.

During his trip to the islands on January 2, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the untapped potential of Lakshadweep, describing it as "full of many possibilities."

His visit, which included sharing captivating images of the islands' natural beauty, has sparked global interest in the destination.

Patel expressed his excitement about the surge in inquiries from prospective visitors worldwide. "This will give a big boost to its economy and generate opportunities for locals," he stated, emphasising the positive impact on the local community.

The administration is actively working on enhancing the tourism infrastructure. "The natural beauty of Lakshadweep carries immense possibilities for the development of the tourism sector," Patel was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

He revealed that plans are in motion to add 1,000 new accommodations, with 225 rooms already under construction. Additionally, water villas in Suheli and Kadmat are being developed.

"At the moment there is a small airport. Looking at this, the prime minister has directed us to work towards developing a proper airport," Patel mentioned, indicating that proposals have been submitted to the Union government for a larger airport.
