Gurdwara Management Committee (
HSGMC
) leadership on Friday handed over an 18-point memorandum of
demand
to Haryana chief minister (CM) Nayab Singh Saini, during an event at his residence in Chandigarh. The memorandum raised demands related to Sikh and
Gurdwara
affair issues.
A separate memorandum submitted by HSGMC leaders also demanded the construction of the houses of Sikh families of Amupur village in Karnal district, which were demolished by the administration on June 26 and the land rights to them, said HSGMC spokesman Kawaljit Singh Ajrana.
Written in Punjabi language in Gurmukhi script, the HSGMC memorandum said that some issues of the Sikh community in Haryana are pending from a long time and were raised with the CM earlier as well.
HSGMC demanded land and grant for Sikh Dharamshala or community center in every district of the state, suitable representation to Sikhs in Vidhan Sabha and chairmanship of government departments by BJP, clear instructions to all deputy commissioners regarding Sikh Kakaars (symbols of faith) in view of incidents of Amritdhari (initiated) Sikh candidates being alleged harassed and stopped from appearing in government or private examinations.
The Gurdwara body also demanded minority commission for Haryana, action against those targeting Sikhs intentionally on social media, building a gate on GT Road to Taraori Road in Taraori named after Guru Tegh Bahadar, memorial gate in the name of Guru Hargobind at an appropriate location in Kurukshetra, making Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission as per the HSGM Act 2014 and transferring intkaal (mutation) of land of notified SGPC Gurdwaras, local Gurdwara management committees and others to HSGMC.
HSGMC also demanded flyover passage from Ambala-Saharanpur Highway to Gurdwara Manji Sahib Patshahi Nauvin, Sudhal in Yamunanagar; action on the letter sent by HSGMC on July 28, 2023 regarding the home department notification of 39 historical Gurdwaras of Haryana; providing charge of SGPC’s Miri-Piri Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Shahabad (Kurukshetra) to HSGMC; and developing Sikh museum as per the announcement of
Haryana CM
(Manohar Lal Khattar) at Kurukshetra as early as possible.
Other demands raised by HSGMC include land rights of Gurdwaras situated in different villages in properties of Waqf Board for long; allotting land to Gurdwara Patshahi Chhevin (HSGMC headquarter) in Kurukshetra from adjoining Theme Park; status of second language to Punjabi in Haryana along with making it language of government work and filling of vacant posts of Punjabi teachers in schools; suitable land to HSGMC at Bad Khalsa village in Sonepat to build a Sarai (inn) and waiving off property tax of Mata Sundri Khalsa Girls College, Nissing (Karnal) and Guru Tegh Bahadar Khalsa Public School in Kaithal.
The HSGMC demands the above raised issues be resolved at the earliest.
