Ram Gopal Yadav on violence in UP's Sambhal

NEW DELHI: Violence erupted in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, following a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid, resulting in fatalities. Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav blamed the district administration for the incident and questioned the judge's decision-making process. AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi plans to raise the issue in Parliament.
The violence stemmed from a survey of the Mughal-era mosque, which led to stone-pelting targeting the

Archaeological Survey of India

(ASI) team.

Vehicles were set on fire and property was damaged. Three individuals—Nayeem, Bilal, and Noman—were initially reported dead. However, the death toll has risen to four, according to Moradabad Range Deputy Inspector General of Police Muniraj G.
Yadav criticized the district magistrate for conducting the survey despite a previous one having taken place. He also raised concerns about the judge’s actions, saying, “The judge didn't call the other party. This doesn't happen. Agar iss tarah se hoga, iss tarah se judge failse karne lage to saare desh main aag laga denge (If this happens and judges give such decisions, the entire country would be under fire).”
Yadav has submitted a notice to discuss the incident in Parliament and emphasized the need for a thorough investigation, stating, “I have given notice and will raise this issue in the House. The House must discuss this issue. Only three deaths are reported, there will be many more deaths than this. They were shooting directly; you must have seen it. The police were telling to shoot.”

Owaisi intends to file an adjournment motion in the

Lok Sabha

to address the police's actions. His letter to the Lok Sabha Secretary General states, “Three youth in Sambal, Uttar Pradesh were killed on 24-11-2024 in

police firing

. They were exercising their fundamental right to assembly and protest under Article 19(1). This issue is a matter of urgent public importance and the abuse of police powers against citizens should be discussed by Parliament.”
