KANPUR: Four persons, including a
couple
, died while three others were critically injured after their car rammed into a stationary truck on
Agra-Kanpur highway
in UP’s
Etawah
on Wednesday morning. The injured included two children.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the accident and extended his condolences to the bereaved families. He instructed the district authorities to ensure best medical treatment to the injured.
The accident occurred around 6:30am when the car going towards Hamirpur from Agra veered out of control and crashed into a truck parked on the highway.
The accident occurred near Pilkhar village on the Agra-Kanpur National Highway.
Four persons, including the driver, died on the spot. Police took the injured to the district hospital. Police suspect the car driver fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle.
The deceased were identified as Shobharani Prajapati, 48, her husband Shivnarayan, 52, both from Mahoba and their relatives Ram Avtar, 60, of Hamirpur and driver Ashu Gupta, 35, of Meerut. Those injured were the couple's daughter Poonam, 35, and her children Rakhi, 4, and son Jitendra, 8.
SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma said, “Investigation is underway. We are probing why the truck was parked on the highway."
