CHENNAI: A businessman drowned in

Porur Lake

while swimming on Saturday, a day before his birthday on June 16.
The deceased was identified as

Nithya

, alias Nithyanandam, a resident of Palayakara Street in Porur, who ran an earth movers and lorry transport business.
Police said Nithyanandam got trapped in weeds in the waterbody while he was swimming and drowned.

Onlookers immediately informed the fire and rescue personnel.
A team from the Poonamallee fire station rushed to the spot and retrieved Nithyanandam's body from the water.
