The exam conducting body, Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) Pilani is seeking experienced industry professionals for the role of Professor of Practice (PoP). This position is designed to integrate real-world experience with academic learning, enhancing students' practical skills and understanding. According to BITS Pilani, Professors of Practice will play a crucial role in advancing the institution's research and educational initiatives. Their responsibilities will include developing new facilities and labs, designing innovative courses, collaborating with students and faculty, and driving industry-linked applied research that could lead to publications and patents.

These professionals will also be involved in course design, promoting innovative teaching methods, and teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels. They are expected to bring practical industry insights to their teaching and act as a bridge between academia, industry, and government to identify and leverage new teaching and research opportunities for societal benefit.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidates must have substantial industry experience and should have held significant positions such as CEO, CTO, Vice President, Principal Scientist, or Senior Research Scientist.

A Master’s degree in engineering, science, humanities, or a related discipline is required; a Ph.D. is preferred but not mandatory.
Professionals with a Bachelor's degree who have made notable achievements in entrepreneurship or start-ups may also be eligible.

The Professor of Practice is a non-tenured appointment. The offer will be initially for a period of three years, which is extendable based on performance and contribution. However, an industry professional may apply for short-term (1 to 2 years) PoP with BITS Pilani against an appropriate leave his/her regular position in the industry. Normally 10% of the total faculty strength may be inducted as PoP.
