From Muqabla to Chhaiya Chhaiya,

nostalgia

peaked for Delhiites as

AR Rahman

performed at the Bharat Mandapam on Thursday night in the capital. Joined by Mohit Chauhan, who sang hits like Nadaan Parindey, Main Hoon Punjab and more, the

concert

felt like a journey through Rahman’s musical career. This was also the first time that Rahman included his

songs

from Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila.

REQUESTS KEPT POURING IN FOR RAHMAN
Fans couldn’t help but keep requesting for their favourite songs throughout the evening. “Which one? Well, more songs are coming up,” Rahman would shout out each time. While nothing could dial down the energy, when Rahman finished with the Swades hit Ye Jo Desh Hai Mera, the

audience

went silent for a moment, prompting Rahman to ask, “All good?” – only to receive a roaring response.

After nearly three hours of nonstop songs, when Rahman called the entire team on stage to wrap up the evening, the crowd, in unison, began shouting more requests. One request that stood out was the song Maa Tujhe Salaam to which Rahman immediately said, “Let’s do this.”

‘Rahman saab songs have always been special to me’
Talking about his collaboration with AR Rahman, Mohit Chauhan said, “I first met Rahman saab when I was called by him to Chennai to sing for

Rang De Basanti

. That was in 2005 or 2006. After that, I have been singing for him for many films. A whole lot of songs in Hindi and other languages, including Tamil and Kannada. I performed with him in Singapore about a week ago, and I have been to many other countries before for these performances. I have been performing with him on stage for almost 7-8 years now. His songs have always been very special to me.”
