A 61-year-old woman died by suicide after jumping from the fourth floor of a posh residential building in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal. The woman, who was the wife of a retired Army officer, had been suffering from several health issues for the past six months.

The incident happened when her husband was away visiting a doctor to discuss her medical reports.

According to a police official, “Anita Mangal was the wife of Sanjay Mangal, a retired officer from the Military Engineering Service (MES). Anita had been suffering from health issues for the past six months, which reportedly led to severe mental distress.”

On Saturday, Sanjay Mangal had gone to consult a doctor regarding Anita’s health reports. Upon returning home, he found no response when he rang the doorbell. Assuming his wife might be at a neighbour's place, he enquired about nearby residents, but she was not there. He then searched the building premises and eventually discovered Anita’s body in the basement.

The police were immediately informed, and the body was sent for a post-mortem. The funeral will take place after the couple’s two daughters, both living abroad, arrive.

According to the police, after his retirement from the Army, Sanjay Mangal had been working with Bhopal Metro as an expert. However, he left his job to take care of his ailing wife.
