San Francisco 49ers
coach
Kyle Shanahan
's team is facing frustration after a big lead was blown, with star defensive tackle
Javon Hargrave
likely to miss the rest of the season due to a partially torn triceps. Hargrave will likely need surgery and be out several months. Although there is a possibility of his return if the 49ers advance into the playoffs, the team plans to continue without Hargrave the rest of the season.

Javon Hargrave to miss the rest of the NFL season
The San Francisco 49ers, despite facing injuries in the early season, have largely avoided season-ending issues.
However, defensive tackle Javon Hargrave suffered a partially torn right triceps in Sunday's loss to the
Los Angeles Rams
, which will likely end his 2024 season. "It's a big [loss]," coach Kyle Shanahan said. "I thought he had his best game yesterday. I thought he was a huge factor, really affected the quarterback in that game. ... He's one of our better players. He was definitely going in the right direction and was going to have a big year.”
Shanahan said quarterback Brock Purdy will be day-to-day this week after an MRI showed a clean back. Running back Christian McCaffrey visited a specialist in Germany to tend to persistent Achilles tendonitis that led to his injury on September 14. Defensive lineman Javon Hargrave, the Niners thought had a triceps injury, instead of that, was found to have a tear that needs to be repaired. Hargrave has chipped in with seven tackles and a sack through three games this season. The Niners may well seek an alternative, Evan Anderson or T.Y. McGill of the practice squad getting a call-up.
Kevin Givens or Jordan Elliott probably starts for the Niners, with end Yetur Gross-Matos playing down to pass. Kalia Davis is injured, but she'll return soon. Although unlikely this week, there's a slight chance Hargrave will be back if this team makes it to the end of the postseason. "When you get surgery that's usually a few months at least," Shanahan said. "If there was a chance, it would have to be late in the playoffs.”
