3 police officers attacked in Brooklyn; man in custody: NYPD

NEW YORK (PIX11) – Three officers were attacked by an emotionally disturbed man who had a machete in Brooklyn on Monday, according to the NYPD.

Police said it happened around 3:30 p.m. at 1151 New York Ave. in East Flatbush.

Officers received a call for an emotionally disturbed person, according to authorities. Police said when they arrived, they encountered a combative 40-year-old man.

As the officers attempted to put the man, identified as Jean Blain, in custody, a struggle ensued, according to authorities. Police said a sergeant was slashed in the right side of the head with a machete, an officer suffered a minor wrist injury and another was injured in the shoulder.

The officers were taken to hospital but have since been released, according to authorities. Police have not released the identities of the officers.

Blain was charged with attempted murder, assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon, according to authorities.
