NEW YORK (PIX11) – Drivers, beware – the holidays will mean complete gridlock in parts of New York City.
The MTA is warning drivers about upcoming Gridlock Alert Days, days in the city that are likely to be such a nightmare that drivers should just ditch their cars entirely.
There are high-traffic days throughout the year, but most land within the upcoming holiday season.
These are the busiest traffic days in New York City during the holiday season:
- Wednesday, Nov. 20
- Thursday, Nov. 21
- Friday, Nov. 22
- Tuesday, Nov. 26
- Tuesday, Dec. 3
- Wednesday, Dec. 4
- Thursday, Dec. 5
- Friday, Dec. 6
- Tuesday, Dec. 10
- Wednesday, Dec. 11
- Thursday, Dec. 12
- Friday, Dec. 13
- Tuesday, Dec. 17
- Wednesday, Dec. 18
- Thursday, Dec. 19
Instead of driving on these days, the MTA encourages locals to opt for subways and buses, ferries, bikes, the Metro-North and LIRR.
“Save yourself the frustration of being stuck in your car and enjoy the fastest and most convenient way to travel into the city during the holiday season,” said Long Island Rail Road President Rob Free.
Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day are both not designated as Gridlock Alert Days, meaning traffic jams may not reach their peaks on the holidays.
