NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – With up to 6 inches of snow possible in New York City on Sunday, locals are being asked to do their part to keep sidewalks safe.
Homeowners, property managers and business owners are expected to clean ice and snow from the sidewalks adjacent to their properties.
If they don’t, they could face fines up to $150 for the first offense. If it’s the second or third offense, the fines reach up to $350, according to the Department of Sanitation.
If the snow stops falling between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., property owners have four hours to clear the sidewalk. If the snow falls between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., they have 14 hours to clear the snow. When snow falls overnight, it must be removed by 11 a.m. the next day.

Winter storm warnings and advisories go into effect at 1 p.m. Sunday and last through 4 a.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service. But New York City could start seeing a mix of rain and snow as early as 10 a.m.
In total, New York City could see between 3 to 6 inches of snow.
