Chaired by Kumaraswamy, JD(S) core committee met on Tuesday to deliberate on strategy for series of electoral battles including MLC, Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha polls
BENGALURU: Former CM and JD(S) state president
HD Kumaraswamy
, speaking for the first time on communally sensitive matters since joining BJP-led
National Democratic Alliance
, affirmed that he will “not blindly support BJP”. He said his party will uphold its ideology and continue to stand by what it deems right.
“I will not support BJP in anything illegal,” Kumaraswamy said.
“Even after teaming up with BJP, my position on the hijab issue remains unchanged. I had previously raised concerns about the lack of transparency in accounts related to donations collected for the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya and that continues.”
On Congress’ allegations that he was trying to incite communal ten sions while taking part in a BJP protest in Keregodu, Mandya, over the ‘Hanuma dhwaja’ row, Kumaraswamy said: “Is there anything wrong with wearing a saffron shawl? I have worn shawls of different colours at various events. Our national flag itself has saffron.”
BENGALURU:
He accused Congress of contributing to the growth of the
saffron brigade
in the state. “Because of you, the Hindutva ideology is flourishing,” he said. “Your Arsikere MLA objects to people carrying lotus flowers, and one of your ministers leaves a function when a song on Lord Ram is played. These actions of yours are facilitating the expansion of the saffron brigade, not me,” he said.
