With his holdout entering its 15th day,
Haason Reddick
's losses are growing closer to eight figures. The
New York Jets
' edge rusher is due to face the Denver Broncos in Week 4. Rich Cimini of ESPN reported that in that time, Reddick has lost $3.16 million in-game checks alone, each of which is worth around $792,000. That loss is compounded by $5.9 million in fines—both mandatory and discretionary—that he incurred.

Consequences of Prolonged AbsenceAdding to Reddick's challenge is that the Jets may be able to recover some of his prorated signing bonus starting in Week 5, potentially another $2.74 million. The two-time Pro Bowler seems adamant about getting a new contract from New York or working a trade to another team. But he has to end his holdout eventually; he might end up doing nothing for his career chances if it goes on through the season.
Tolling of Contract
According to Joel Corry of CBSSports.com, Reddick likely is in line for free agency if deadlock persists, but he can be tolled into '24, which would keep the 30-year-old from entering free agency, keeping him tied to New York's roster till '25.
General manager Joe Douglas will face increasing pressure with the Nov. 5 trade deadline as, with each week that passes, Reddick's market value continues its downhill trend.
Internal Opinion and League Assessment
The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported,
"Other GMs around the league believe the Jets need to start making calls."
"I don't sense panic internally in New York, especially considering the play of 2023 first-rounder Will McDonald has been better than expected (five sacks)," she reported. "As for Reddick, unless he gets a new deal, I don't expect him to show up anytime soon. At this point, it might be more surprising if he ever plays a single snap for the Jets."
Risky Acquisition and Potential Fallout
New York moved its chips onto Reddick in this case, hoping that his preference lies with security. That sounds like the worst-case scenario is playing out for the house in question, and it leaves the Jets trying to figure out what they are going to do with an unresolved fate of Reddick.
