Panaji: Opposition parties in Goa used words like “let down” and “disappointing” while reacting to the Union Budget.
Opposition leader
Yuri Alemao
said the Centre has disappointed Goa as there is nothing for the coastal state.
“The main engine seems to have forgotten the engine in Goa. While alliance partners like Bihar have got the chunk of Budget announcements, Goa has been seemingly overlooked,” Alemao said.
On income tax rebates, Alemao said the Union Budget harps on just one thing: the income tax slab increased to Rs 12 lakh and has left people confused.
AAP state president
Amit Palekar
said that the Budget has once again failed the middle class, even though tax relief has been granted, there are no real measures to tackle inflation, and no there is support for education, healthcare and employment generation. “The burden keeps rising, while govt looks the other way. Disappointing,” Palekar said.
South Goa Congress MP Viriato Fernandes said there is not much confidence that govt has given to the citizens of India. “We all know that the economy of the country is not doing well, and it is spiralling out of control. Foreign investors are pulling out their money. I listened to the speech very intently, hoping that there would be something offered to the middle class, but there is not much given to them,” he said.
Fernandes mentioned that there is not much more for the education sector, as a lot of teachers are waiting in Goa to be regularised. He also said that unemployed youths have been let down in the Budget. “Overall, this govt has let down the people of the country.”
