NEW YORK (PIX11) – This stretch of abnormal heat in the tri-state area has people scrambling to find ways to stay cool.
Cooling centers across New York City and Long Island are open. In addition, officials encourage people to stay hydrated, stay in a cool place and reduce outdoor activity.
But when will the heat end?
Hot weather is expected to continue into the weekend, with highs between the high-80s and low-90s, according to PIX11 meteorologists. Thunderstorms are also expected Friday through Sunday, making for a possible weekend washout.
The break in extreme heat is expected next Monday, with high temps in the mid-80s.
Unfortunately, temperatures could hit 90 degrees next Wednesday, but the remainder of the week is expected to stay in the mid-80s.
