LITTLE NECK, Queens (PIX11) -- A sanitation worker of 19 years died on job Saturday afternoon, city officials report.
Richard Errico, 54, died when he fell and was run over by his own truck on Douglaston Parkway around 5:45 p.m., police say.
“For over 19 years, our fallen brother worked tirelessly to keep the streets of New York City clean and safe. His commitment to public service, in a tough and dangerous job, will not be forgotten,” said Harry Nespoli, the president of the Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association, in a statement.
Nespoli and New York City Mayor Eric Adams reached out to Errico’s family to extend their sorrow and offer support.
“New York’s Strongest work tirelessly every day in incredibly difficult and physically taxing jobs. Too often, we don’t stop to thank them for all they do to make our city a better place for us all to live,” said the mayor in a statement.”
Police have not yet made known how the accident may have happened.
