'My client not the man US looking for': Nikhil Gupta's lawyer tells Geeta Mohan

Indian national Nikhil Gupta, 52, is facing charges of trying to hire a hitman to assassinate Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. As the US seeks extradition of Gupta, his lawyer, Petr Slepicka, spoke exclusively to India Today TV and discussed the charges against his client, evidence that legal counsel has been provided, and more. Nikhil Gupta’s lawyer mentioned that the only evidence that they have received from the US side is an American agent’s statement. “There is nothing more. In the statement and in the indictment, there are mentions of a lot of evidence, like video calls, etc, but we have not received anything,” he added. Gupta is facing charges of murder-for-hire and conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, with each count carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.  Talking about the murder-for-hire charge and the evidence in the case, Slepicka said, “All you can see in the picture is four hands and money between the hands. Nothing more. Mr Gupta wasn't in the US, it is not his hand...I have not been shown photographic evidence, I saw it in the American indictment.” Slepicka also pointed out that Gupta’s last visit to the United States is dated 2017.
