Virender Sehwag's son Aaryavir slams double century

NEW DELHI: Aaryavir, the son of former Indian cricket star Virender Sehwag, achieved a remarkable feat on Thursday by scoring a double hundred whilst representing Delhi against

Meghalaya

at the MCA Cricket Ground in Shillong in the

Cooch Behar Trophy

.
After choosing to bat first in the match that commenced on Wednesday, Meghalaya managed to score 260 runs in their first innings.
Delhi responded strongly on Day 2, establishing a commanding lead of 208 runs at stumps with only two wickets down, following an impressive 180-run partnership between Aaryavir and

Arnav S Bugga

for the opening wicket.

Whilst Bugga notched up a century before departing, Aaryavir carried on to achieve a remarkable double hundred. He remained not out on 200 from 229 deliveries, his innings featuring 34 fours and two sixes, as Delhi reached 468 for two. At the other end, Dhanya Nakra was unbeaten on 98, scored from 91 balls.
In October, Aaryavir made an impressive debut in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, scoring 49 runs against Manipur to guide Delhi to a six-wicket victory.
Sehwag revealed last year that his son was already aspiring to secure an IPL contract.
"My son is 15 years old and is already working hard to get a chance to play in the IPL," he said on Star Sports.
"The IPL has benefited young talent the most. Earlier, nobody got noticed from Ranji Trophy performances and hence couldn't make it to the Indian team. But now, if you perform well in the IPL and you showcase your talent, then immediately, you get an opportunity to play for the Indian team. Because of the IPL, so many children from smaller states of the country have started taking cricket seriously and try their best to participate in the IPL and strive hard for it," he added.
