Two policemen among six injured in a clash between cops and villagers in Ferozepur

FEROZEPUR: Six persons, including two cops were injured in a clash between the police and the villagers who went to investigate in village Chak Hamad of

Ferozepur

district, late night on Sunday.
According to the information, three villagers are said to have sustained

gunshot injuries

. Their families alleged that cops in inebriated state, fired at them without provocation.

The police have registered a case against unknown persons and started an investigation. One of the injured has been admitted to a local private hospital while two seriously injured have been referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College in Faridkot.

. As he reached his village Chak Hamad, he gathered a crowd of people with him and surrounded the police. In the meantime, the policemen fired in the air in defense to disperse the crowd in which four villagers and two policemen were injured.
On the other hand, the people of village Chak Hamad say that a person named Shinder Singh of the village and his wife were bringing langar from the langar outside the village in memory of Baba Budha ji. Meanwhile, a police party stationed at Bandala Bridge was returning to Arif K police station. They had an argument with the motorcyclist over some issue. He alleged that the policeman in civil uniform first rammed the police jeep into the motorcycle in which arm of the motorcycle rider's was fractured but he managed to flee from the scene and reached the village.

When the villagers assembled to inquire about the matter, a drunken policeman allegedly in civil uniform opened fire blindly.
It is reported that three villagers sustained bullet injuries in this firing. According to the villagers, one minor injured was discharged from the hospital after first aid, while Lakhwinder Singh was admitted to a local private and Binder Singh, Sohan Singh, Karan Singh has been referred to Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot. It s reported that Karan Singh has been discharged from the hospital on Monday while remaining two are undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, in his complaint, sub-inspector Balraj Singh, station house officer (SHO) of the Arif Ke police station, claimed that he received information last night about an accident involving a tipper truck and a motorcycle near Chak Hamad village, following which he along with his police team, reached the location and found out that the biker and the tipper truck driver had fled towards the village. They apprehended the biker who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. “Several villagers gathered at the spot and they started arguing with the police,” claimed the SHO adding that the villagers attacked the police party and in self-defence, cops fired into the air to disperse the crowd during which constables Manbir Singh and Pargat Singh sustained injuries bsides Lakhwinder Singh, Sohan Singh and Balwinder Singh and Karan Singh also injured in the clash.
Saumya Mishra, senior superintendent of police, Ferozepur, said a case has been registered under Sections 109(1), 132, 221, 190, 191(3), and 324(4) of the BNS as well as Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act based on the SHO’s statement. The matter is being examined from all angles. The role of the cops is also being looked into, she said adding that further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
