NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. (PIX11) – Four new public skateparks are coming to Brooklyn and the Bronx, according to Mayor Eric Adams.
During the 2024 State of the City address, Mayor Adams announced that the city is set to partner with Tony Hawk’s The Skatepark Project and other city officials to develop major skateparks across New York City. The skateparks include the Bronx Park, Soundview Park, Mt. Prospect Park, and Brower Park, officials said.
With this project, the city hopes to provide “high-quality public recreation spaces” to communities that lack access to such spaces.
“The parks will provide public greenspace for community engagement alongside sophisticated facilities to meet the growing demand for skateboarding, scooter, BMX, in-line skating, roller skating and Wheelchair Motocross in New York City,” Mayor Adams said.
Last year, The Skatepark Project teamed up with the non-profit Brooklyn Bridge Manhattan to develop Gotham Park and bring back the Brooklyn Banks skate spot under the Brooklyn Bridge on the Manhattan side.
“For most of my life, skateboarding has been my home and community. Skateboarding brings people together, creating long-lasting friendships, builds determination and confidence, and all while promoting a healthy lifestyle,” said skateboarder and founder of The Skatepark Project, Tony Hawk.
