MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Lights, camera, action.

It’s the biggest night for Broadway, and it’s not even on Broadway. The Tony Awards, for the first time ever, are being held at Lincoln Center.

Hours before the awards show, the red carpet was full of glitz, glamour, and gorgeous gowns.

It was excitement overload as everybody celebrated one of Broadway’s best seasons. Two hit shows, Hell’s Kitchen and Stereophonic, each received 13 nominations.

Hell’s Kitchen was inspired by Alicia Keys, who grew up as a piano prodigy in that Westside neighborhood.

Keys was the producer of Hell's Kitchen, making her parents so proud.

“For us, it’s just proud parents,” Keys’ father, Craig Cook, told PIX11 News. “Hopefully, she will be blessed with the folks with the folks up on the stage. I’m greedy.”

“I’m an actor. I’m happy she is doing something with the stage. She always dives into everything. Nothing is halfway,” Alicia Keys' mother, Terria Joseph, added.

“I am so grateful to celebrate Hell‘s Kitchen, to celebrate New York City, to celebrate my diverse story. Who would imagine?” Alicia Keys herself told PIX11 News.

Broadway, this season was filled with so many stars like Eddie Redmayne in Cabaret.

When PIX11 told Red how fabulous he was in Cabaret, he said:

”Thank you. That means a lot to me. Thank you very much.”

Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff, and Lindsay Mendez will star in the Broadway revival of Merrily We Roll Along.

“I am excited to be nominated along with Jonathan and Lindsey. I hope they both win,” the humble start told PIX11 News.

There were so many outstanding plays, musicals, and performances this season, too many to single out.

But the new head of Actor’s Equity, Brooke Shields, summed it up nicely when asked if this is the best Broadway season ever.

“I really think so when you think about coming out of the pandemic. Talent is so unique, refreshing and diverse. This is what Broadway is. This is what theatre is,” Shields told PIX11 News.
