Neuroscientist listed certain drinks that people consume regularly which aren't healthy for the brain.
Diet soda can increase the risk of brain disorder.
Alzheimer's disease, a form of dementia that affects memory, thinking, and behaviour, is a growing concern across the globe, even in India. Alzheimer’s currently doesn’t have a cure, but treatment is available to manage its symptoms.
Recent studies and surveys have provided a clearer picture of the prevalence and impact of this neurodegenerative condition within the country.
The estimated dementia prevalence for Indian adults over 60 is 7.4%, translating to approximately 8.8 million individuals. Dementia is more prevalent among females than males and is more common in rural areas compared to urban settings.
Exercising, having a nutritious diet and indulging in brain-stimulating puzzles can help reduce any risk of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s.
Neuroscientist Robert Love, in an Instagram Reel, said that there are certain drinks people consume regularly which aren't healthy for the brain.

Diet Soda
Most diet soda contains an artificial sweetener called aspartame, a sugar substitute. “It is not good for your gut bacteria and has side effects like cancer. Research shows that aspartame is associated with type 2 diabetes, which is harmful to the brain,” said Robert Love.
Alcohol
Alcohol is not just bad for the liver, it also kills the good gut bacteria which affects the functioning of the brain.
“It reduces activity in the prefrontal cortex, which is kind of your self-monitoring region. It turns off a part of your brain that censors you. It is not good to regularly turn off part of your brain. Besides, the biggest threat of alcohol to the brain is sleep,” according to the expert.
Sports drinks
Many sports drinks that claim to increase your energy after a heavy workout can also increase your risk of Alzheimer’s due to the high amount of artificial sweeteners.
