NEW DELHI: Eight terrorists linked to jihadi group
Islamic State
(ISIS) were arrested on Monday following raids by the
National Investigation Agency
(NIA) at 19 locations across four states: Karnataka, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Delhi.
The leader of the Ballari (Karnataka) module - Minaz, also known as Mohammed Sulaiman - is among those who were arrested in these ops.
The NIA spokesperson said a huge amount of unaccounted cash, firearms, sharp weapons, incriminating documents that detailed possible targets, smartphones and other digital devices were seized during the raids conducted as part of the central agency's ongoing efforts to disrupt and demolish the attempts of ISIS to carry out violent acts of
terror
in the country.
Explosive raw material such as Sulphur, Potassium Nitrate, charcoal and gunpower was also seized. The agency said the terrorists were planning to make IED's to use in terror attacks.
"The terrorists were constantly in touch with one another via encrypted apps. They were specifically aiming to recruit college students," the NIA said.
The anti-terror agency last week carried out multiple raids in Maharashtra and Karnataka which led to the arrest of 15 operatives.
