NEW DELHI: In Sunday's regular-season finale, veteran
Ryan Tannehill
will take the reins as the starting quarterback for the
Tennessee Titans
against the
Jacksonville Jaguars
. The decision comes as
Will Levis
is nursing an injured right foot, prompting the coaching staff to turn to Tannehill for the critical game.
This marks Tannehill's 63rd start for the Titans over the past five seasons, with only seven of those occurring this season after he temporarily lost the starting position to Levis in late October.
Coach
Mike Vrabel
commended Tannehill's handling of the situation, noting, "He's handled (things) with class... I do appreciate Ryan's professionalism throughout."
In his nine appearances this season, Tannehill has completed 64.7% of his passes for 1,448 yards, with two touchdowns and six interceptions. Over his 11-season NFL career, which includes stints with the
Miami Dolphins
and the Titans, Tannehill has amassed 34,713 passing yards, 214 touchdowns, and 114 interceptions.
Malik Willis
, a second-year pro, will serve as the backup quarterback, while Levis, listed as questionable, will be the No. 3 quarterback and utilized only in emergency situations. Four Titans players, cornerbacks
Caleb Farley
and
Anthony Kendall
, defensive end TK McLendon Jr., and receiver Colton Dowell, have been ruled out for the game due to various injuries.
