Tenacious Jannik Sinner fights back to beat Daniil Medvedev, clinches maiden Australian Open title

exhibited his fighting skills to the tilt as the fourth-seed Italian fought back from two-set down to register a sensational five-set victory over World number three

in a thrilling final to clinch his maiden

Australian Open

title on Sunday.
Sinner was blown off course in the first two sets but recovered to win 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in three hours and 44 minutes.

This is Sinner's first

Grand Slam

title in his first appearance in a Major final. However, former US Open champion Medvedev, playing in his third final at

Melbourne Park

, was third time unlucky in his quest for victory.
The 27-year-old Russian started off well and stayed solid on his own serve at the Rod Laver Arena in in Melbourne.

Medvedev, who took 36 minutes to win the first set, once again broke twice to take the second set 6-3, but this time in 49 minutes.
The 22-year-old Italian kept his composure despite losing the first two sets, as he fought back hard in the third and fourth sets to break Medvedev's serve exactly in the 10th game and take both the sets with a 6-4 scoreline in 45 and 56 minutes respectively.
Sinner clinched a vital break for a 4-2 lead in the deciding fifth set and eventually sealed the deal 6-3 in his favour.

For the first time since 2014, a new champion has emerged in the men's singles category at the Australian Open, breaking the dominance of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer.
World No. 1 Djokovic was stunned by Sinner in the semi-finals, while Medvedev got the better of Alexander Zverev of Germany in his last-four clash.
