Summer surge: COVID on the rise in NY, according to the CDC

NEW YORK (PIX11) – COVID's summer surge has arrived, with cases on the rise in at least 38 states – including New York, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

There were over 600 COVID-19 cases reported in the Big Apple for the week of June 24 alone, according to data from the New York City Department of Health.

Two new coronavirus variants account for half of the infections in the U.S., per the CDC. An updated vaccine targeting the new variants is set to come out this fall.

The CDC recommends that everyone get vaccine boosters when they can.
