Jacqueline Fernandez on Wednesday moved a Delhi court, seeking protection from intimidation from conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar. In her plea, the Bollywood actor said on July 18, while she was participating in the court proceedings through Webex, she received unsolicited messages and a voice note from Sukesh, who was also participating in the proceedings through the same platform.
The actor alleged the messages were 'completely unwarranted and highly inappropriate' and hence she refrained from responding to them.
Jacqueline also alleged conman Sukesh's barrage of letters and messages posed a substantial threat to her safety and that the conman had intentionally been writing these letters to the electronic and print media.
The actor said she lodged a complaint with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), underscoring the alarming attempts by Sukesh Chandrasekhar to establish illicit contact with her. However, she said no action has been taken to date by the Delhi Police.
In its response, the EOW stated, "It has been observed that the accused Sukash Chandershekhar has been in the habit of sending letters, concerning Jacqueline to media platforms, through various means, which is not only harassing/threatening her directly, but also affecting her social/professional assignments.
"Such aggravating nature of the threat/harassment to the victim/applicant is a matter of grave concern for the investigating agency that an important witness of the case is being coerced/harassed/ threatened by the accused. It will have serious implications on the conduct of the trial of the case, concerning Jacqueline," it stated.
"Jacqueline has no previous interaction with the accused Sukash Chandershekhar and her interaction with him started only during the period of commission of crime by him," the EOW stated.
The development comes days after the Bollywood actor approached the Delhi High Court seeking to quash the FIR against her in the Enforcement Directorate's Rs 200 crore money laundering case involving Chandrasekhar.
