BENGALURU: A
21-year-old final-year BBA student
and
photography enthusiast
allegedly committed suicide in her Sudhamanagar residence in Wilson Garden, after her
parents refused
to allow her to go and take pictures of
New Year Eve revelry
across the city.
Varshini R, a student with a private college in Jayanagar, was found hanging from the ceiling of her room post Sunday midnight, when her father Rajanna, a goldsmith, broke open the door.
Rajanna owns a jewellery shop in Sudhamanagar. In his complaint to Wilson Garden police, Rajanna said Varshini, the youngest of his three daughters, had completed a photography course at a private institute recently. "From an early age she was enthusiastic about photography and had clicked thousands of photos in our mobile phones. Seeing her eagerness to learn photography, I had enrolled her at the institute," police quoted him as saying.
On Sunday, Varshini told her parents that she would go out to click pictures of New Year Eve revelry. "We objected saying the crowd behaviour could be risky and it would be dangerous for her to go to all the revelry hubs. She was angry with us and locked herself up in the room at night. Post midnight, I woke up and called her again, thinking she must be hungry. But there was no response. I panicked and broke open the door only to find her hanging from the ceiling. We immediately shifted her to KIMS hospital where doctors declared her brought dead," Rajanna told police.
