STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) --- A swimmer who was reported missing at a Staten Island beach on the Fourth of July was a false alarm, police said Friday.

Authorities said the woman, 49, was believed to be in the water at South Beach near Father Capodanno Boulevard at around 5:40 p.m. Divers and NYPD aviation units searched for the woman but she never went swimming, police said.
