Some 3-K students won’t be in their district: Banks

NEW YORK (PIX11) - Some parents of 3-year-olds enrolled in New York City’s 3-K program may have to travel outside of their school district after all, New York City Schools Chancellor David Banks said Wednesday.

Speaking on the PIX11 Morning News, Banks said 94% of families that applied received a seat in the 3-K program, but about 2,000 families are still being placed. Banks said some families will not get a seat in the district where they live – a reversal from last week when Mayor Eric Adams said families would not have to travel.

Banks also discussed the city’s budget and Department of Education funding, what programs may stay, and possible changes in graduation requirements for New York City high school students.
