: The South Indian Hotels and Restaurants Association (
SIHRA
) president K Syama Raju said that AP has a lot of potential in the
tourism sector
and it should focus on it by giving more priority to the sector. He said government should provide more
connectivity
to other destinations from AP, especially from Vizag, which has a beautiful coastal corridor to attract more tourists and the hospitality sector needs single window clearances to set up a greater number of hotels.
Speaking to media persons here on Friday on the occasion of the 3-day convention of the South Indian Hotels and Restaurants Association (SIHRA)from Friday to Sunday, Syama Raju said the AP state government had taken many initiatives to attract the tourists, but the tourism sector needs more encouragement. Government should promote its tourism destinations across India. create a single window clearance for necessary permissions from concerned departments.
The AP Hotel Association President RV Swamy said that they have requested the state government to enhance the business hours in the night till 2 pm. The state DGP promised to consider the request. “As per the GO, hotels can open till 12.00 midnight, but, due to various reasons, it is not coming into reality. We hope that the government will take the required steps to attract the tourists,” he hoped.
SIHR convention, a biannual event, would discuss about the problems faced by the industry, industry-friendly policies, streamlined clearance procedures, delegates also have the opportunity to network with their peers and officials, exploring avenues to enhance their revenues by promoting destinations and tourism product.
The 3-day event will have business sessions covering various topics relevant to the southern states' hospitality industry and investment opportunities. More than 800 representatives including hospitality professionals, leading international hospitality brand representatives, major hospitality suppliers, manufacturers, catering institutions, and students from Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu,
Telangana
, AP, and Puducherry are participating in the convention. Apart from them, the tourism ministers of all states and concerned higher officials are also participating in the convention.
Convention Chairman Balakrishna Reddy, Telangana Hotels Association President Venkat Reddy, and Karnataka Hotels Association President GK Shetty participated.
