The whale has been swimming in Sloop Channel for several days but appears to be both happy and healthy, according to the Town of Hempstead.

Experts believe the whale may have been attracted to the abundance of fish in the bay due to the recent warm weather.

In the meantime, local marine officials are urging boaters to watch their speed in the bay and surrounding waterways until the whale safely returns to the open sea.
