Search for suspect underway after girl, 5, in stolen car dropped off at Queens YMCA: NYPD

QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) – Police are still searching for a suspect after a car with a 5-year-old girl inside was stolen in Queens on Tuesday before she was dropped off at a YMCA, according to the NYPD.

A mother went into a market on Jamaica Avenue around 7: 15 p.m., only to return to find her SUV with her daughter in it disappearing down the street, police said. A video exclusively obtained by PIX11 News showed the alleged suspect walking up to the vehicle, getting inside and racing off.

The woman is seen desperately running after the SUV in the video.

The girl was dropped off at the YMCA on Parsons Boulevard about 10 minutes later, according to authorities. She was reunited with her mother at the 103rd Precinct, a video taken by PIX11 News showed.

The child was not injured, according to authorities.

The SUV was found abandoned in the Bronx around 10 p.m., police said.
