Sarpanch of Ajit Pawar-led NCP shot dead by rivals in Maharashtra

of Maralwadi village in Maharashtra's Parli, who belongs to Ajit Pawar-led

NCP

camp, was

shot dead

by his rivals over a

financial dispute

. Police have booked five, including an NCP (SCP) functionary.
Bapu Andhale (35), the deceased, was attacked on Saturday. Dyanoba Gitte, Andhale's associate, also suffered bullet injuries.

He was admitted to a hospital. On Sunday,

SP Nandkumar Thakur said the main accused has also sustained bullet injuries and has been admitted to a hospital.
"Four other accused are absconding. We have recovered one firearm from the site. It is still unclear if there was a gun fight between two groups," he said. Thakur said six people have been detained and efforts are on to trace the absconding.
Police said Andhale had borrowed money from one of the accused. "He was allegedly not returning the money," inspector Sanjay Lohakare of Parli police station said.
Acting on a complaint by Gitte, police have registered an offence under Section 302 (murder) of IPC among other charges.
