Revival of 'Cats' musical arrives in NYC with immersive ballroom twist

NEW YORK (PIX11) – A new revival of the musical "Cats" is giving feline realness.

A ballroom-inspired version of the iconic Tony Award-winning show is making its New York debut.

"Cats: The Jellicle Ball" premieres Thursday at the Perelman Performing Arts Center. Ballroom culture, which emerged in the Big Apple more than 50 years ago, is at the heart of the reimagined production.

The show is staged as an immersive catwalk competition, with no shortage of voguing and club rhythms. It touches on hard-hitting issues, including being marginalized and ostracized by family and community.
